There are few museums in the world as famous or popular as the British Museum in London. Since its founding in the 18th century, the British Museum has collected historical and archaeological objects from around the world. Its large collection of antiquities, however, is not without controversy. Some of the museum’s objects, most notably the Elgin Marbles that were removed from the Parthenon in Athens, have lead to battles over provenance. Despite this, the British Museum remains one of the world’s premier museums.
