The SoHo Memory Project was created by Yukie Ohta to preserve the history of New York’s SoHo district. As with many former industrial districts, SoHo has experienced gentrification in recent years that have transformed it into an expensive residential and commercial district. Because of this, Yukie Ohta’s interactive traveling museum collects photos, objects, and even recreates smells reminiscent of SoHo’s past. This collection of New York City history is placed into mobile cabinets that allow for easy transportation and access wherever it opens.
