Aachener Dom (also known as Aachen Cathedral and the Cathedral of Aix-la-Chapelle) was founded by Emperor Charlemagne. Both an active Roman Catholic church and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aachener Dom is open for tourists when services are not taking place.

The architectural style of Aachener Dom varies somewhat due to additions to the original structure. The cathedral’s famous Palatine Chapel, for example, is done in the Carolingian style; later changes added Gothic and Baroque architecture as well.
